A warm welcome to our monthly roundup of what’s on in and around Guildford.
We will begin with our great friends at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, ‘The Arnaud’ is a genuine Guildford institution with a rich history of world-class plays and performances. It has recently undergone a major refurbishment, a real vote of confidence in the future at a time when many venues are closing.
‘National Treasure’ Nigel Owens MBE is one of the most recognisable characters in world rugby, certainly its best known former international referee, and he brings his enormous personality to town on Sunday November 2nd, you can buy tickets here.
The astonishing Jasmin Vardimon company take to the stage on the 4th and 5th with their show Now, co-commissioned by the Sadler’s Wells Theatre, expect an evening of drama and of course, world-class dancing.
Seen by more than 22 million people worldwide Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story is a tour de force of passion, drama, excitement and some of the most instantly recognisable songs and hits of the 20th century.

Between the 18th and 22nd of November the YA plays host to Sherlock Holmes: The Hunt for Moriarty, an absolute must-see for fans of Sherlock and the good Dr.
Billed as ‘A thrilling descent into a world of intrigue and deception’ the world of Victorian England is brought to life by a superbly talented cast in this adaptation of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle classic from Nick Lane.
The ‘most popular Pantomime in Surrey’ begins its run on Saturday 29th as a cast including the fabulous Lucy Benjamin, the hilarious Matt Pinches and the frankly inimitable Peter ‘PG’ Gordon reassemble to bring the classic Beauty and The Beast to spectacular life
There’s always plenty on at the Yvonne Arnaud, and you really should pop in for a look ‘round at their beautiful developments…and have a slice of cake while you’re there.

The inspirational Russell Watson hits Guildford on the 4th with ‘The Evolution Tour’, followed by a complete change of pace in the shape of ‘The Good, The Bad, And The Rugby’ an evening that promises Lions and World Cup debriefs, stories of our weirdest, darkest, greatest and most unforgettable days and those who have entertained, frightened, stunned and broken us during a combined 60 years in the game.
Fan of classical music are in for a rare treat on the 11th as the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Sergey Smbatyan present the Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 2, Mozart’s Magic Flute Overture and Symphony No. 5 by Tchaikovsky.
On the 22nd it’s the turn of Radio 4 favourite Stephen K Amos to take the G Live stage with his hilarious show ‘Now We’re Talking’ before ‘A Wild Evening’ featuring Michaela Strachan and Gordon Buchanan with tales from behind the camera on their wildlife adventures.
November at G Live builds to a crescendo with Jo Whiley’s 90s Anthems ‘No-one knows the 90s like Jo – she was right there on the cutting-edge, leading the charge as Britpop blew up, dance music exploded and indie went wild.’
And finally, a heads up for a very special couple of nights in January as ‘Paul Jones and Friends’ once more take to the stage. Now in its 21st year these all-star gigs take place on the 6th and 7th, and they will sell out…simply because of the quality of the music, and the surprise ‘Friends’ that have included Sir Van Morrison, Sir Tom Jones, Eric Clapton, Paul Weller, Paul Carrack, Lulu, and Jools Holland to drop just a few names!
