Welcome to our monthly roundup of just a few of the entertainment highlights that you can enjoy in Guildford this month.
We will start as always with the two largest venues in town, our close neighbours at G Live and of course the wonderful Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.
Let’s kick off with the Yvonne Arnaud.
If you are very quick, there’s still time to catch award-winning illusionists Jay & Joss, stars of Britain’s Got Talent and genuine superstars in the making as they bring It’s Not a Game to the Yvonne Arnaud on August 4th.
Something completely different takes to the stage on the 5th, with K-Pop Icons, a celebration of the Korean music phenomenon. It’s an interactive experience, with live dancers and all your favourite avatars.
Motown: The Candlelight Tour hits town on the 6th and it really is an unmissable event for music lovers as a live band and world-class vocalists deliver hit after glorious hit. Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Jackson 5, Gladys Knight, Lionel Richie are just some of the stars paid tribute to.
On Saturday the 8th we have the show with possibly the longest title we have ever written about in An Evening with Arthur Smith & Caroline Quentin about ‘An Evening with Gary Lineker’ before Our Man in Havana runs from the 11th until the 15th with an all-star cast including Jack Ashton, Leon Ockenden, Bob Barrett, and Jodie Steele.
It’s family fun all the way between the 20th and 23rd with Toto the Ninja Cat and the Great Snake Escape. Based on the best-selling book by Dermot O’Leary the show is packed with laughs from start to finish…the Purrfect night out for all the family.
Just over the road from Mandolay is G Live, a venue that regularly attracts the biggest names in ‘showbiz’ to Guildford.
This August they have the Princess Proms on Friday 21st, this show has been selling out in venues around the UK and it’s easy to see why. West End stars perform hits from Frozen, Wicked, K-Pop Demon Hunters, Moana, The Wizard of Oz, Beauty & the Beast, Anastasia, Pocahontas, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and more!
Fans of Country music will not want to miss Country by Candlelight on Saturday 22nd. A full cast of world-class vocalists bring hits from Dolly Parton, Luke Combs, Kenny Rogers, Rascal Flatts, Shania Twain, John Denver, Darius Rucker, Chris Stapleton and many more.
Royal Blood are rising stars of the music scene with a Mercury Prize nomination and a Brit Award to their name already. You can see what all the fuss is about on the 25th. It’s strictly over 18’s and we expect, not for the faint-hearted!
Something a little (a lot), gentler draws the curtain on August at G Live as In The Night Garden Live, brings all the shows favourite characters to life on stage. There are other shows for young children, but as The Independent wrote, “there’s nothing quite like In the Night Garden Live.”
Ahead of the Guildford Fringe Festival in September, our great friends Nick and Charlotte Wyschna are holding a Free Fringe Event on Guildford High Street on Saturday August 15th.
It’s a family fun day with lots to see, do and watch including live performances from Fringe acts including The Barricade Boys, fresh from an all-conquering tour of America…absolutely not to be missed.
You can find lots more events, including free shows at the Visit Surrey website.
Have a great August, stay cool and laugh.
