MEET OUR CHEF

David Fodor has been with The Mandolay for almost ten years, starting as a member of the kitchen brigade and rising steadily ‘through the ranks’, reaching the Head Chef position in 2019.

During his time at the hotel, David has combined a strong work ethos with exceptional cooking skills, developing a style that reflects his personality, using the finest local ingredients to create recognisable dishes presented in an unfussy manner, with a genuine flair.

David and his team are justifiably proud of their AA Rosette status, the only such accolade in the area, and one which continues to set his kitchen apart from other fine restaurants.

ROSETTE MENU AT THE GRILL

Designed by David, this selection typifies his approach to how a modern restaurant should operate, the focus is, and always will be on quality, using only the finest, seasonal, and locally sourced produce.

Skilfully prepared and elegantly presented, each dish celebrates the ingredients without fuss, but with plenty of style.

Traditional and wholesome can be elevated to the special, especially when treated with respect.

BREAKFAST AT THE GRILL

Here at The Mandolay we appreciate that breakfast can be the most important meal of the day, something to set you up for business ahead, or a packed programme of doing nothing.

Freshly cooked bacon, prize-winning sausages, eggs just the way you like them, farm fresh mushrooms and tomatoes, hash browns and black pudding, enough choice to satisfy the heartiest appetite.

For those looking for something on the lighter side, we have an enviable selection of cereals, granola, muesli, and fresh fruit salads.

Freshly brewed coffee or speciality teas, fruit juices and mineral waters are all served, exactly as you wish.

BAR SNACKS & LUNCH AT THE GRILL

Served in The Restaurant, or at a choice of tables in the bar, lunch at The Mandolay allows guests the opportunity to choose from warming homemade soups, to freshly prepared salads.

For the hungrier diner, we have a selection of generously prepared open sandwiches, and side dishes, with freshly brewed coffee and delicious dessert choices for the sweet of tooth.

TRADITIONAL AFTERNOON TEA

Afternoon Tea at The Mandolay is a genuine Guildford Institution, an event to suit any excuse for a special time, birthday, anniversary or just a group of friends catching up with the latest gossip!

We take tea seriously, and our selection is among he finest available anywhere, each brewed and served perfectly and with great care.

And then there is our selection of cakes, pastries, sandwiches, and sundries, all baked or hand prepared in our very own kitchen, under the watchful eye of Head Chef David Fodor. You can choose from Traditional Cream Tea or add a touch of indulgence with our Prosecco or Champagne Lauren Perrier options, and for those with a taste for the less sweet, we even have a special Savoury Afternoon Tea, a Mandolay exclusive.

A restaurant setting for all occasions, light and airy, or intimate and subtly lit, with open tables and discrete booths, the perfect seat is always yours, whether you are visiting as a solo traveller, a couple or family group, a large celebration or for a special event.

Such flexibility is rare, but it is no more so than our cast iron commitment to exemplary service, quietly efficient and attentive without being overwhelming and always on-hand to advise or handle your special requests.

Chef David has created a menu that offers genuine choice, without being overcrowded, our focus is on fresh ingredients, cooked well and served without fanfare or fuss.

Our drinks list features a selection of fine wines and Champagnes designed to match any course and meet most budgets, with over 35 wines available by the glass.

Whether you are heading out to a show at G Live or visiting the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre to see a West End play, Mandolay offers the perfect venue for your pre-event dining and drinking requirements.

We know that you have a show to catch, and while our service is never rushed, we appreciate that the last thing you want to be doing is dashing out before the curtain goes up.

We are a two-minute walk from G Live, Guildford’s premier live entertainment venue, with its packed line-up of comedy nights, concerts, and family shows…in fact, if you reserve a seat in our bar, you might even see the band getting off the tour bus, that’s how close we are!
