Each month we publish our guide to what’s on in and around Guildford, but we often find ourselves typing the words ‘sold out’.
So, this month we are taking a look ahead to concerts, events and festivals that are heading to town this spring and summer.
We will kick off with the wonderful Guilfest, recognised as one of the most family friendly music and arts festivals in the UK. Stoke Park will once again be reverberating to the sounds and sights, and it’s easy to see why this annual celebration continues to draw big crowds, and great acts.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor is headlining on Saturday 5th of July with Rudimental, ABC, Inspiral Carpets and Tiffany also appearing. A special mention must also go to the remarkable Elvana, the World’s finest Elvis fronted tribute to Nirvana!
Sunday the 6th sees some really big guns of the music world take to the stage as The Proclaimers, Kid Creole, Kula Shaker, Haircut 100 and our great friend Gavin Thomas wow the crowds.
The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre is an absolute gem of a venue, recently refurbished it continues to attract many big names, often appearing in sell-out productions immediately prior to their West End runs.
Part national treasure, part Godfather of punk poetry, Dr John Cooper Clarke is a truly unique talent, and you’d be daft to miss his show on Sunday May 10th.
And on the subject of national treasures, May 22nd and 23rd sees Anton Lesser bring Thomas Hardy to life in Words and Music, ‘ A truly magical…a show that will inform and enchant in equal measure’.
Into June and on Sunday the 7th we have impersonator Alistair McGowan and his sensational 3-in-1 night of comedy, poetry and beautiful piano music. The man is one of the finest impersonators in the country, he’s very funny, a brilliant poet and even has a No.1 best-selling classical album to his name!
Phantoms of the Popera is an unmissable night of show stopping hits starring the great G4. Expect all your favourites from Wicked, Lion King, Miss Saigon, Rent, and many, many more. Tuesday 16th of June is the night, and it really will be one to remember.
Our great friends and close neighbours at G Live have a star-studded season ahead, and here are just a few of the highlights.
Chris McCausland and Eric Clapton have sold out…we did warn you, but there’s still plenty on offer.
On May 4th Wallace & Gromit take centre stage at the 50th anniversary celebration of all things Ardman, there’s a concert and even workshops to learn how to make your own clay figures.
Do not miss comedy giants Jasper Carrot (6th and 7th May), Rory Bremner (10th May), Sir Lenny Henry 20th May), Al Murray (21st May), and the brilliant Mark Thomas (18th July)
Back into May and we have Alfie Boe performing his hits on the 22nd. While Nigel Kennedy brings his unique style (and priceless violin) to Guildford on the 26th.
We will finish this heads up with perhaps the most treasured of all national treasures.
An evening with Michael Palin on May 31st will sell out, please book your tickets now to avoid disappointment.
In fact, this goes for all of the shows mentioned here, so get your skates on and don’t kick yourself later.
