Get the Picture

Your memories of Guildford and the beautiful countryside surrounding the town deserve to be captured for ever, and whether it’s a quick snap, a Tik-Tok, a selfie or a panoramic view that you are after, here are a few places that you really should not miss.

The High Street

Iconic is the word, the world famous Guildhall Clock has stood guard over the High Street since 1683, a testimony to the clockmakers art, it has an English Oak casing, cast iron internal frame and copper dials…oh, and it’s very beautiful.

Abbot’s Hospital

Also on the High Street, but even older than the clock is Abbot’s Hospital, founded in 1619 by the Archbishop of Canterbury, George Abbot ‘out of my love to the place of my birth’. Although never a hospital in the traditional sense, the building continues to provide accommodation to the people of Guildford.

The River Wey

So many beautiful photographic locations to choose from at the bottom end of town, but we recommend a visit to Dapdune Wharf for the best views and an opportunity to learn more about the river, and its role in making Guildford so prosperous.

The Castle

The first Norman Castle to be built in England, and today the magnificent keep and beautiful gardens provide a rare opportunity to film real British history. Worth visiting all year round, the castle grounds are particularly spectacular in spring and summer.

Guildford Cathedral

Built with the help of public donation, the Cathedral was consecrated in 1961 and shares its Stags Hill location with the University of Surrey. The hill offers views across Guildford, and for horror film buffs the Cathedral features in the 1976 movie, The Omen!

Newlands Corner and Silent Pool

Described by long-time resident Eric Clapton as the ‘best view in the world’, Newlands corner offers an opportunity to photograph acres of quintessential English countryside. Just along the road is the Silent Pool, home to the ‘most haunted place in Surrey’ and the world famous gin distillery (we do not think these two things are connected).
