Well, it may come as a surprise to some people, but more often than you might imagine, the answer is yes.
Here at Mandolay, we have a policy of arranging complimentary room upgrades whenever we have the space. Of course, as a very busy hotel it isn’t always possible, so how can you improve your chances of bonus, not just at Mandolay, but at other great hotels?
Here are a few quick tips.
Most obvious of all is ‘pay for it’, this isn’t as harsh as it sounds, many hotels will offer same-day upgrades, so just ask at reception if there are any deals to be done, a late cancellation might present itself, and for just a few extra pounds, you have yourself an upgrade.
Book directly with the hotel, and email before arrival. Hotels are far more likely to comp an upgrade if you have booked direct, so not only will you be getting the best rates, and the largest choice of room types, you might also be lucky enough to snag an upgrade.
Staying at a quiet time can really help, some hotels are busier at weekends, especially those in traditional holiday destinations, or ones with extensive function capacity. Others are more ‘corporate’ in nature, meaning that a lot of their business is done between Monday and Friday, to coincide with the working week. If you are flexible on dates, do a little research about the place you are visiting.
When is an upgrade not an upgrade?
When you personalise your stay experience with some special touches. Mandolay, and many other hotels offer a selection of in-room packages to enhance your visit, everything from chilled Prosecco and fine chocolates, to cocktail mixing sets, and ‘film-night’ sweeties.
This is a great way to make any visit feel extra special, and the packages themselves often represent genuine value!
And finally, ask nicely. We are not suggesting anything sneaky here, but the reception team are your friends, engage them in conversation about the hotel facilities, and ask about special offers or promotions.
