Welcome to our monthly roundup of what’s on in our glorious town as we enter late spring and head into summer.
We will begin as always with the two behemoths of live entertainment in Guildford, the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, and G Live.
On June 7th the remarkable Alistair McGowan brings his show 3-in-1 to the Yvonne Arnaud, a celebration of his award winning piano music, his poetry and of course his legendary comedy impressions.
If you are familiar with the brilliantly funny ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ you will not want to miss the bonkers theatrical event that is ‘Thespians or Greece the Musical’. You can catch the mayhem between the 9th and 13th of June.
Staying at the Yvonne Arnaud, the brilliant voices of G4 will be wowing a packed audience on the 16th with ‘Phantoms of the Popera’. Expect all the hits and a great deal more.
The month at the YA ends with The Marquise, a romantic comedy from The Master himself, Noel Coward. A remarkable cast includes BAFTA winner Juliet Aubrey starring alongside Simon Shepherd in this story of old secrets, impulsive passion and eternal youth.
Our close neighbours at G Live welcome the all-round comedy talents of Richard Ayoade and his show Afterthoughts on Monday 8th of June.
Things take a turn to the sinister side on the 12th and 13th with Murder Trial Tonight: Death of a Landlord, a courtroom thriller based on a true story.
We cannot claim to be experts on the subject of Power Metal but a double bill of Drowning Pool + Spineshank seems to be causing quite a stir and you can find out what all the fuss is about on the 17th ‘Prepare for an evening of thunderous energy, uncompromising power and classic metal anthems!’
There’s a change of musical pace on Friday 19th with Q The Music – The James Bond Concert Spectacular. Altogether now De der derrrr, this show is a brilliant tribute to the music from the movies.
Family audiences will love ‘The Dinosaur that Pooped a Rock Show’ at 12:30pm on Saturday June 20th. If you have small children, you will know exactly what to expect.
June at G Live concludes with Still Pointless: BalletBoyz at 25 on the 25th. This co-production with Sadler’s Wells celebrates a quarter of a century of beautiful dance from 10 world class performers.
Tickets for Guilfest as selling Guilfast! The family friendly outdoor festival at Stoke Park takes place on July 4th and 5th and what a line-up it is.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Rudimental, ABC, Inspiral Carpets, Tiffany and the remarkable Elvana headline on Saturday with The Proclaimers, Kid Creole, The Specials and Kula Shaker taking to the main stages on Sunday.
