This month we want to focus on a few of the community initiatives that make Guildford a better place to live and work.
As a business, we are always delighted to offer help and support in any way that we can. This support ranges from hosting charity events and fundraising dinners, parties and quizzes, to direct donations of everything from toiletries, food and even furniture.
Guildford is home to a remarkable network of charities and community organisations working tirelessly to support residents through compassion, creativity, and practical help. Among our favourites are The Lighthouse, Guildford Action, Oakleaf, and Guildford Philanthropy, each playing a unique role in strengthening the fabric of the town.
The Lighthouse Guildford has quickly established itself as a vibrant hub in the town centre. Run largely by volunteers, it offers everything from a community café and food support to creative workshops, wellbeing groups, and practical help for people facing hardship. Its warm, inclusive atmosphere makes it a lifeline for those seeking connection, confidence, or simply a friendly face.
Just a short distance away, Guildford Action provides essential day services for people experiencing homelessness, vulnerability, or social isolation. For over 40 years, it has offered hot meals, showers, clothing, advice, and emotional support. The team works closely with partner agencies to help individuals rebuild stability, access housing, and move towards independence. Their youth service also supports young people facing complex challenges at home or in education.
Oakleaf Enterprise focuses on mental health, offering therapeutic activities, vocational training, counselling, and employment support. From horticulture and carpentry to art, exercise, and wellbeing courses, Oakleaf empowers people to regain confidence and structure in their lives. Its commitment to reducing stigma and promoting recovery has made it one of Surrey’s most respected mental health charities.
Supporting all of these efforts is Guildford Philanthropy, a partnership between Guildford Borough Council and the Community Foundation for Surrey. By funding local charities and social enterprises, it helps tackle disadvantage, build skills, and create long‑term opportunities for residents. Its grants strengthen frontline services and enable grassroots projects to grow sustainably.
