When it comes to great food, small really can be beautiful
We take food very seriously at Mandolay, after all, the AA do not give out Accreditations for Culinary Excellence to just any kitchen.
But we also recognise that the world of food is changing, and that recently these changes have been rather dramatic especially with the rise in popularity of weight-loss programmes like Wegovy, Ozempic and Mounjaro, to name just three.
We are of course delighted to continue offering generous portions of locally sourced, and brilliantly prepared fine food, but we are delighted to introduce our ‘Small Plates, Big Flavour’ menu for those that are, for whatever reason, looking for something a little more restrained.
Starters include ‘Mini Soup of the Day’, all the flavour but with a smaller portion size, ‘Goats Cheese & Beetroot Salad’, and ‘Smoked Duck with Pear and Celeriac Remoulade’.
Main courses include a smaller version of our classic ‘Mandolay Burger’ served in a crisp lettuce wrap rather than a bun, and a half portion ‘Cider Battered Haddock’ that has to be tasted to be believed…Mmmm…delicious.
We haven’t neglected those of you with a sweeter tooth with a simply divine ‘Salted Caramel Crème Brûlée’, ‘Pear and Blackberry Crumble’ or ‘Seasonal Fruit Cup with Sorbet’, all prepared by chef Davis and his team with every bit as much love as you deserve.
We believe that smaller plates can have massive personality, with portion sizes calculated to match appetites that still want flavour packed dishes but without fear of leaving the table feeling over-full, or perhaps even worse, feeling wasteful of perfectly good food (what would our mum’s say!)
And of course, there is the final ‘Brucie Bonus’ for diners choosing our ‘Smaller Plates’. The price reflects the portion size, because nobody likes paying for anything that they won’t consume, including great food.
When it comes to healthy eating, we are big believers that smaller portion sizes are the way forward and we will be introducing more dishes aimed at reduced appetites…in fact, you could say that this menu is just the tip of the Iceberg (lettuce).
Bon appétit
