Sales Director, Tami Vickery talks us through some of the most frequently asked questions about events at Mandolay.
This week, we take a closer look at Organising a Wake or Celebration of Life
Is it normal to feel overwhelmed when planning a wake?
Absolutely. Bereavement is a deeply emotional time, and organising a reception can feel daunting. That’s why many families turn to experienced venues or funeral directors to help ease the burden and help deliver the wishes of you, your family and friends.
What kind of event can a wake or celebration of life be at Mandolay?
It can be anything you wish, from a formal gathering to a relaxed get-together of family and friends. The format is entirely flexible and should reflect the personality and wishes of you and your loved one.
Who can help me plan the event?
You might be guided by your funeral director, celebrant or a trusted figure in your religious or community circle. These individuals are often invaluable in helping you make decisions and manage logistics.
What should I consider if I’m organising the event myself?
Here are some key questions:
- Will there be flowers, or do you prefer the idea of a donation to a favourite charity?
- Will the reception be private or open to all?
- How many people will attend the service and the reception?
- How will you inform guests of arrangements on the day, word of mouth, formal invitation, or a note in the Order of Service?
- Will food and drink be provided? If so, what style of service do you prefer?
- How long will the event last?
- Is there adequate car parking?
- What is your budget?
Isn’t this process a bit impersonal?
It can seem that way when listed out, but working with professionals helps remove some of the emotional strain, we can offer suggestions and take care of details so you can focus on what matters most.
Will I still have control over the decisions?
Yes, of course every choice is yours.
The role of the venue or organiser is to support you, not to take over. Our goal is to ensure the event is respectful, seamless, and exactly as you envision, or have planned.
The final thing I would add is that you cannot ask enough questions, please just call or email, we are here to help.
