Not for the faint-hearted but Guildford Lido, one of the oldest outdoor swimming facilities in the UK is now open all-year round.

Opened In June 1933, and one of the few remaining pools from the era that retain typically 1930s architecture and features, ‘the Lido’ is a genuine jewel in the crown of Guildford, and Surrey, hosting generations of happy revellers and swimming enthusiasts.

In summer, it really is the place to be seen, regularly attracting sell-out numbers especially during school holidays, there’s a play area, fully equipped gym, fitness classes and beautifully managed grass filled grounds.

During the summer months, there are lots of family events, exhilarating slides and plenty of ice cream for you to enjoy.

But it remains a destination for the serious swimmer, especially now it’s open all-year. Lane swimming is always popular, and with the pool heated to a toasty temperature between 20 and 24 degrees there’s really no excuse for you not to take the plunge.

While there, you can enjoy a snack in the excellent café, perhaps taking the time to read more about the fascinating history of the construction, and the fundraising effort that proved so successful, the driving force, William Harvey was awarded an OBE in the 1934 honours list.

You can book on the Freedom Leisure app or pay on the day, and you can find opening hours and more details about the facilities on The Lido website.

The Lido is a ten-minute walk from Mandolay and there is plenty of free parking at the site, although please be aware you do need to register your car and display the free parking ticket.

Go on, give yourself a wintery treat and head down to Stoke Park…we’ll have the hot chocolate and marshmallows waiting for you when you get back.
