Mandolay Q&A
Sales Director, Tami Vickery talks us through some of the most frequently asked questions about events at Mandolay.
This week, we take a closer look at Organising a Meeting at Mandolay
What are the classic ingredients of a successful meeting?
You’ve heard of the “Ps”: Purpose, Planning, Preparation, Participants, and sometimes even Pizza and Play, but beyond the theory, it’s the on-the-day details that truly determine success.
How important is reliable, high-speed internet connection at a venue?
It’s absolutely crucial. Reliable, high-speed internet in every room is a must. Dead zones or dropped connections can disrupt presentations and frustrate attendees, especially when multiple devices are in use. Fun fact, Mandolay was the first venue in Surrey to offer free high-speed wi-fi.
What role does food play in a meeting’s success?
A big one. It’s not just about lunch and dinner, snacks matter too. Think granola bars, fresh fruit, quality biscuits, and pastries. Even the table sweets should be tasty and easy to unwrap (and no crinkly wrappers!)
What AV issues should organisers watch out for?
Compatibility is key. High-end equipment is useless if it doesn’t connect to presenters’ devices. A missing cable or adapter can derail a session, so we always ensure everything is plug-and-play ready.
Why does having specialist staff make a difference?
Experienced staff can spot potential issues and solve problems before they escalate. You want professionals, not “well-meaning amateurs”, people who know how to handle hiccups discreetly and efficiently, and of course the team at Mandolay always fit the bill.
Should venue staff be hands-on during the event?
Support is appreciated, but constant check-ins can be disruptive. Organisers prefer venues that trust their expertise and respond when needed, rather than hovering.
Is parking really a deal-breaker?
It can be, and we have onsite parking at Mandolay please just ask about parking availability, capacity, and logistics for loading/unloading equipment.
How does comfort affect the meeting experience?
Significantly. Long sessions demand comfortable seating, proper temperature control, and thoughtful lighting. No one wants to squint through glare or shiver in a draughty room.
